During the visit to Beijing, the delegation was received by Professor Xunming Ji, President of CAMS/PUMC. In his welcome remarks, Professor Ji highlighted the importance of sustained international collaboration and interdisciplinary research in addressing major challenges in biomedicine and global health. He noted that these shared priorities continue to underpin the partnership between CAMS/PUMC and the University of Oxford. “Our collaboration is built on a shared commitment to addressing major global challenges in biomedicine,” said Professor Ji. “By combining complementary strengths, we are well positioned to generate impactful advances in research and clinical translation.” |
The visit featured a series of academic engagements, including Master Lectures delivered by Professor Sir Andrew McMichael, Professor Tao Dong, Professor Geoffrey Smith and Professor Douglas Higgs in Suzhou, Beijing and Tianjin. These lectures reflected on key developments and broader trends in their respective fields, stimulating thoughtful discussion with faculty members and students.

Alongside these activities, the delegation held extensive meetings with research teams across multiple institutes and hospitals, exploring opportunities for future collaboration and training activities. Priority areas for cooperation were identified, together with a framework to guide the next phase of the partnership.
During the visit, the COI delegation engaged with colleagues from the following CAMS/PUMC-affiliated institutes and hospitals: the Suzhou Institute of Systems Medicine (ISM), the Institute of Materia Medica (IMM), the Institute of Medicinal Plant Development (IMPLAD), the Institute of Medicinal Biotechnology (IMB), the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS), the Institute of Pathogen Biology (IPB), Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), and the Institute of Haematology & Blood Diseases Hospital (IHBDH).
