Dear CAMS Oxford Institute Members,
At the end of what has been a very busy and successful year for the CAMS Oxford Institute (COI), we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for helping to create and maintain this invaluable network of researchers who are at the forefront of scientific research worldwide.
A key metric for the success of any institute is the number of publications, and COI researchers did not let us down publishing a total of 71 peer-reviewed papers in 2023 alone. Remember to let the COI Admin team know if you are publishing an article and would like a news story to increase exposure.
This year saw international travel to China re-open which gave us multiple opportunities to interact with our Chinese colleagues in CAMS. The biggest event of the year was the COI Conference which was held in Chengdu in June. We took 100 researchers from Oxford over to meet with 100 CAMS Researchers across the 4-day event. A news story about the event can be found here.
This year we held the first COI Summer School for 30 CAMS post-graduate students in Beijing. A full report & the photos from this successful event can be found here. Plans are now underway for the 2024 Summer School. Regarding training, our training programmes continue to successfully run over Zoom for CAMS postgraduate students. Thank you to all those who have given their time to run a training session this year, your contributions are valued, and we hope that you will continue to enjoy delivering these sessions in coming years.
2023 has seen the number of researchers based in the COI building double from ~40 to ~80. It has been lovely to see our numbers grow, particularly within our Career Development Fellow led groups who are just getting started. With the increase in researchers, the COI Building continues to be improved and adapted to our needs. We want to thank everyone for their ongoing patience with the works and thank you to the PSS team for working to ensure that disruptions are as minimal as possible. We all look forward to the works being finished in 2024.
We ended the year with a Christmas event for 110 guests at Lady Margaret Hall, starting with a networking drinks reception and followed by a formal dinner. It was a lovely opportunity to gather and reflect on the year. The photo at the top of the page shows all the attendees just before they sat down to a delicious dinner.
We look forward to seeing what 2024 will bring for the CAMS Oxford Institute.
Wishing you all a lovely festive break,
Prof. Xuetao Cao Prof. Tao Dong
