Xia Wan

Professor

Xia Wan is a Professor and Principal Investigator at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences / School of Basic Medicine, Peking Union Medical College. From 2016 to 2021, she served as a consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO), contributing to the revision of the WHO Global Air Quality Guidelines.

She has led or participated in multiple international collaborative projects supported by organizations including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Bloomberg Foundation, the China Medical Board (CMB) Foundation, and Vital Strategies, with a research focus on the Burden of Disease (BoD) and tobacco control.

She has received six academic awards from Chinese professional associations, including the Chinese Medical Association, the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, and the Ministry of Education. In addition, she has received other notable honors, including the Global Tobacco Control Alumni Award for Excellence (2012), the CMB Faculty Development Award (2013), the State Scholarship Fund Award (2014), and the International Cooperative Program for the Training of Innovative Talents (2024). She has published more than 160 peer-reviewed papers in Chinese and English, including articles in The Lancet, Addiction, and Tobacco Control.
