Vidushi Saxena

Research Assistant

I received a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) with a specialisation in Biomedical Sciences, focusing on Immunology, Microbiology, and Virology, from McMaster University, Canada. I then completed my Master of Science in Biology at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, where I researched how H. pylori infection and mutation in the tumour suppressor gene Apc contribute to gastric carcinogenesis. My research interests include immunology, infectious disease, and oncology.

At COI, I am excited to work on the OPTIMAL study, a clinical feasibility trial investigating the effects of a reduced-dose immunosuppressant regimen on immune function in older kidney transplant recipients. My work involves assessing immune phenotype and function by optimising and applying assays, including flow cytometry and ELISpot, with particular interest in immunosenescence and age-related inflammation ("inflamm-ageing").

Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading, cooking, baking, running, yoga, and exploring new places!
