Meshal Al-Ghanem

DPhil Student

Targeting USP18 to prevent Cancer Immune Evasion

Meshal Al-Ghanem is a DPhil student in Pharmacology at the University of Oxford, joining the CAMS Oxford Institute under the supervision of Dr. Adán Pinto-Fernández. He is a faculty member at King Faisal University, College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the recipient of a Full Scholarship of Excellence from King Faisal University (Saudi Arabia), supporting his doctoral studies.

Meshal holds a PharmD from King Saud University and an MSc in Cancer Sciences from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, University at Buffalo (USA). His doctoral research focuses on how USP18 inhibition can boost immune activity and enhance anti-tumor responses.

With extensive experience in pharmacology laboratories, experimental therapeutics, and cancer wet-lab research, Meshal applies molecular biology, immunology, and proteomics approaches to explore new vulnerabilities in cancer.

His work represents a step toward developing innovative cancer immunotherapies, with a long-term vision of advancing translational cancer research and contributing to novel strategies in drug discovery and molecular oncology.
