Twelve researchers from University of Oxford groups and twenty delegates from participating Hospitals in China came together to present data and results that have emerged from the CTI initiative.
The symposium began with a welcome meal featuring delicious local cuisine. Professor Xuetao Cao, the current CAMS president, gave a riveting speech on the work that the CTI has already done, and his hopes for the future of the collaboration.
The first day of the symposium started with opening speeches from Professor Xuetao Cao, Professor Vincenzo Cerundolo and Mr Darren Nash from the Nuffield Department of Medicine. After these positive and informative opening talks, we were privileged to have Professor Sir Andrew McMichael (also from the Nuffield Department of Medicine) and Professor Xuetao Cao present keynote speeches, which gave us an insight into the amazing results the CTI has been able to achieve. The keynote speeches were truly a highlight of this year’s symposium.
After the opening and keynote speakers it was a full day of presentations from some of the top researchers in China, including delegates from CAMS as well as leading academics from the University of Oxford.
The second day started with the remaining presentations followed by the inspiring closing speech of Professor Tao Dong, who began her research career in China and who is now at the University of Oxford.
The symposium presentations gave scientists a chance to share vital information about their research which each other, helping delegates to move forward in their own projects, as well providing feedback and new ideas to the presenters.
The symposium also strengthened existing collaborations, with many new ideas about how to move projects forwarded being shared. The many discussions also fostered the formation of new collaborations.
Next year’s CTI Symposium will take place in Oxford: we look forward to renewing and strengthening ties with our Chinese colleagues as we move forward towards exciting new work.
